Usually I tune out advertisements in comic books (or anywhere else for that matter) but this issue had one that I not only noticed but actually read carefully and enjoyed – gasp! It was the mini-story about breast cancer awareness featuring Iron Man and Captain America. Have any of you noticed it? It totally reminded me of those old Hostess ads from the 1970s, and it had an important message and was pretty cool to boot! Anyway, it was just one more cool thing in this already cool issue.

Date: November 2012 Publisher: Marvel Comics Cover Price: $2.99 Stats: 21 color pages plus ads and “Letters Without Fear” letters page Writer: Mark Waid Artists: Chris Samnee, Javier Rodriguez, Joe Caramagna Notable Notes: Matt begins hallucinating?
Have you ever been good friends with some one, maybe even best friends, and then had a bit of a falling out? I have. And you know what is even more unpleasant? Needing to deal with that ex-friend again because he or she is the only one who can help you. Yeah, I’ve been there too! Here is a story where Matt and Foggy are upset with each other but still require each other’s help. The bright side to all of this, however, is that it usually leads to a renewing of the friendship – let’s see what happens here shall we?
Date: May 1979 Publisher: Marvel Comics Group Cover Price: 40¢ 2012 Price Range: $9 – $145 Stats: 17 color pages plus ads and Bullpen Bulletins Writer: Roger McKenzie Artists: Frank Miller, Klaus Janson, Joe Rosen, George Roussos Notable Notes: 1st Frank Miller Daredevil art, also the origin (and death) of Deathstalker!
The first page of this issue literally introduces us to “Lanky Frank Miller.” It is obvious that Marvel thinks this upstart artist is something special, because he is mentioned again in the Bullpen Bulletins. According to Wikipedia Miller had drawn a couple issues of Spider-man, and asked to work on Daredevil because he saw a way “to do crime comics with a superhero in them.” Yeah, looks like things worked out pretty well for Lanky Franky and his crime comics!
Date: May – August, 2001 Publisher: Marvel Comics Cover Price: $2.99 each ($11.96 total) 2012 NM Price: $4 each Writer: Brian Michael Bendis Artists: David Mack (mostly) Notable Notes: The “Wake Up” story line.
I’m a huge fan of Daredevil, and was a little bit disappointed back in 1999 when Marvel decided to start the series over with volume 2 and a new numbering scheme. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find that I enjoyed the series even more! Things got even better when David Mack was brought on to the series and I discovered his beautiful talent for the first time. This story was one of my favorite of the whole run – how could I not share it with all of you!

Writer: Roy Thomas Artists: Gene Colan, Syd Shores, Artie Simek Notable Notes: Daredevil reveals his identity to Karen Page! Oh, and Death’s Head makes an appearance.
Gosh, I recently realized that I haven’t even reviewed any issues of my all-time favorite series: Daredevil – shame on me! So I’ll get the ball rolling by taking a look at an issue I bought a decade ago but never read. And what a great cover huh?!
