A New Season of Elfquest

This issue feels very much like the first episode of season two… if Elfquest were a TV series! Some time has passed, and we are given glimpses into the lives of the characters and what is happening now. It is fun to be back, but I still feel a little disappointed that we didn’t get to see and experience what had happened in the interim! I’m guessing it was all normal “life” stuff, and the creators wanted to plunge us back in when things had gotten interesting again.

Synopsis:

The Quest Begins: Several years have passed since the events in the last issue, and now Cutter and Leetah have kids – a pair of twins even! It appears that the two tribes have learned to get along, and even enjoy each others’ company. However, one dark night a small group of ragged humans wanders in – and the Wolfriders are prepared to kill them! After they tell the elves of their desperate times, Cutter decides to let them leave peacefully – much to the disappointment of his tribe. Then, after consulting the mother of memory, Cutter and his trusty friend Skywise decide to journey about for a year or so in search of other elves. They start by going back to their old forest – only to find that it has all been burned down!

How I Rate This Issue:

  • Story: 5 stars – This was a great build-up for the coming quest, and a good introduction to what has happened to the elf tribes lately.
  • Art: 5 stars – Beautiful drawings with spectacular coloring!
  • Fun Factor: 5 stars – It was fun seeing what has happened to Cutter to Leetah and all the rest. The quest sounds like an intriguing plot point for future issues, and it was cool seeing some of the elves’ past places and enemies again.
